A neat wrestling game that features many great wrestlers including the famous co-founder of AJPW, Shohei Baba (known in this game as Giant Baba, whom passed away about ten years ago), as well as two characters from Virtua Fighter, Wolf and Jeffry. It’s also the predecessor to Giant Gram, which was released for Dreamcast.
AJPWFV is a simple and fluid wrestling game that doesn’t have a bunch of bells and whistles but is substative as-is. Characters have the cool ability to do reversals, fight outside the ring, pull off different moves depending on how beat up they are, get support from cheering fans (which make you harder to pin), etc.
Interestingly, you can also break an opponents bones in different places by repeatedly inflicting damage to a particular part of the body. For example, if you keep headbutting an opponent, you’ll eventually fracture their skull. Turn ’em around and do a back breaker to break their… back/body. Things of that nature. If you break two body parts, the referee stops the match. Pretty straightforward game with little to no music, but kinda fun. If you like this, I highly suggest looking for both sequels on the Dreamcast. Enjoy.
